Preventing homelessness in Reading

CEO blog November

As our population gets older, their children often end up looking after their parents or parent in this case. Freddie* is 41 years old. For the last 10 years he has looked after his dad. Sadly his father died six month ago and after the funeral their house was repossessed. Freddie was homeless and penniless. He came to the Launchpad Drop-in and we were able to assist Freddie in finding accommodation. He is now safely in a small flat, we have helped sort out his benefits and he is now looking forward to starting work again (fingers crossed). He is currently working as a volunteer in the community.

Big Issue sellers

Launchpad has a number of Big Issues sellers out on the streets of town. Please support them, however there are a number of pretend sellers who will say, this is my last copy can I keep it and have the money.

Films of the month

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. A wonderful funny bitter sweet film concerning a small town in America, the inability of the local police to find the killer and the consequences of the murder on a number of people in the community.

Operation Finale. In the 1960s the Israelis  hunt for the mastermind of the Holocaust, Adolf Eichmann. An exciting film covering his capture and eventual execution.
